“Here comes the Sun…. doo doo doo doo….” played as I attempted a headstand and promptly fell over. I couldn’t help but laugh. There was plenty of light present in the high ceilings and art covered walls of ArtsRiot’s new event and gallery space last Sunday morning. Rogue Yoga’s kick off event was just what I needed to come down from the Art Hop buzz. Emily Eley’s melodic voice guided us through postures, jasmine iced tea after and some easy conversation helped to start this new week and season off with a fresh and clear mind.
This Thursday, pull up your spandex and get ready for a whole different kind of experience. Adena Rose Hartford will teach the class to prepare an Ayurvedic meal and then we’ll eat it!
Drop by ArtsRiot to pick up tickets!
What do ninjas, poetry and hula hooping have in common? Yoga. What!? No! How? Rogue Yoga is one of ArtsRiot’s ongoing event series, where instead of destroying apathy we will be transforming it into some awe-inspiring (acro yoga,) ass kicking (ninja yoga,) and getting sweaty together (all of the above,) good times.
Caitlin, yoga teacher and event coordinator, has put together a 10 week series of yoga inspired events with the mission to inspire community beyond the studio. If you are a regular yogi with a solid practice or are completely new to yoga, come spark or stoke the fire of your practice, meet new people or talk with the ones you see in passing. Rogue Yoga operates outside of normal controls, of traditional class formats and studio settings with the intention of making yoga and the community surrounding it uber accessible. By keeping costs low, fun high and experiences diverse, Rogue Yoga hopes to inspire Sangha on the South End.
Each week features a different theme and teacher. ArtRiot is offering their large community space which sings with possibility and connection from its high ceilings to its art covered walls. Yoga based philosophy and movement act as the container for this mischievous grab bag of inspired events. Take a look at the schedule, there has got to be something on there that seems just right for you. If there isn’t let us know and we will do our best to plan it into next series, running January through March.
Let one experience guide you to the next. Enliven and expand your practice on and off the mat. If you are a teacher, offer to come teach whatever you are most passionate about and would love to take a chance on. Get to know your students and fellow teachers. Everyone eat, drink and join the conversation. The more who join, the more infinite the possibilities. Come and play!
